I had the Canon D500 for almost a week and after extensive use, here are my Canon D500 Review:
1. 15.1 megapixel sensor. Yes, the high megapixel count is impressive, but keep in mind that as you get closer to a higher resolution is needed to ensure the objective of the reflex that can solve many of the details. Unfortunately, including the 18-55mm IS is functional, but the reality shows high resolution so the quality of the lens. Even taking into account, the images may be soft with this kit lens. These were photos taken with Canon EF-S 17-85 mm and EF 70-200mm L lenses are fresh. I have no complaints about the quality of the images. There are some problems with noise at higher ISO not showing in the Nikon digital, but in general, the quality is amazing for the price. The tones of the skin, fabrics, colors are reproduced with great precision.
2nd DIGIC 4. The DIGIC 4 processor seems to process / save images in 15 megapixel at the same time (if not faster) than the DIGIC III processor for xsi (even in RAW + JPG mode). I also noticed that the higher the ISO the sensor and DIGIC 4 processor for producing images with less noise overall than its predecessors.
3rd LCD. The 920, 000 pixel LCD screen is large (3 “), fresh, vibrant and visible even in full sunlight. In comparison, the Canon xsi SLR (which replaced by the Canon D500), also has a 3″ LCD, but with 230,000 pixels . The viewing angle is very high and the LCD display can be easily seen almost 180 degrees around.
4th ISO 12800. Canon and Amazon are to correctly identify the T1i maxes in ISO 3200. Some less reputable dealers a list of ISO 12800, which should be ignored. The ISO 6400 and 12800 has been extended for setting ISO settings. The photographs taken in these two settings of ISO 3200 images are pushed to ISO 6400 or 12800 by the DIGIC 4 chips before storing in the memory card. These images are very grainy and contains a large amount of noise to the point that can be used only as snapshots or to add an artistic effect of certain compositions.
5th Penta-mirror. Canon D500 is still disappointing in this part. The penta-mirror viewfinder image is functional, but much darker than the penta-prism in the viewfinder of the Nikon D90 (which is the main competitor to T1i). I would have preferred if he kept the Canon xsi 12.2-megapixel sensor, 1080p video completely lost, and probably upped the cost of the camera a little ‘to cover the cost of production using a penta prism – the T1i. Honestly, unless their massive cut in pictures, or the creation of large images, the difference between 12.2 and 15.1 megapixels is really insignificant.
6. Size. This is the same as XSi body, and therefore somewhat ‘on the lower side compared to other digital SLR. I have small hands, so Canon D500 is comfortable for me. If you have large hands, I see that it is very difficult to use the camera for a long period of time. If you have not managed Canon XT, XTI and XSi, I suggest you go to a store and hold the D500 before you buy online. (I’ll upload a picture of my hands D500 a Gallery user for a size reference.)
7th HD video. Yes, the Canon marketing department has made a terrible decision, and the marketing push shelves Canon D500 limit 1080p recording at 20fps (frames per second). Recognizing this is a marketing trick that allows them to put a label on the package 1080p camera. The 1080p @ 20fps most of the time is fine, but it seems a dive if you have a lot of action in the context or scene quickly. The Canon D500 720p video recording at 30 fps and is clean, smooth, and sufficient for all but the most demanding consumers. A major criticism is that, even if the sound is recorded in mono, and there is no entry for an external microphone.
A lot of pre-production Canon D500 comments criticizing their inability to focus automatically during recording. I do not want to put much weight to these criticisms, especially since none of the other two SLR cameras with capability of recording HD (Canon 5D Mark II and Nikon D90) automatically during the recording, nor automatic. What can you do with it Canon D500 pan / zoom, and then press the AE lock (*) to make automatic the camera on the new voice (during the recording of all). One problem with using the AE lock button so that the autofocus camera is the microphone of the camera is on the front top left of the body near the lens mount. Therefore, the objective is the noise of the engine chosen as ambient sounds. Even with my silence USM Canon (ultasonic motor), slow, slow sound of this engine is very strong in video playback. Although, remember, you can manually turn the focus ring to achieve the goal of your new theme in focus. It is not easy, but after a while ‘in practice, it is not too difficult, o.
Ultimately, we must not allow HD recording that could in one way or another. This is a reflex camera – not a camcorder. High-definition video is a great feature, but if you’re looking for something, first, to take the video, look elsewhere. There are much better and less expensive cameras out there that can record 1080p true.
8th Record button. For some reason, the video button next to the registration screen LCD (the same button used for direct printing). The first couple of times to take the video, you use intuitively the shutter button to take pictures. The reason for this change is that you can take a still image while recording video, even if in doing so, stop recording.
9th Battery life. My first fully charged battery lasts only about 250 shots (without flash), but all costs, I have given in the range of 500-700 shots per charge. I’m guessing the first post had such a short life, because I spent a little ‘time to learn the menu and camera settings.
10th Live View. Honestly, can not review this as I have not used much yet – I prefer to use the viewfinder. One feature that I can say is that is beautiful in the LCD display, you can use the digital zoom (up to 10x) in a section of your project to make sure it is properly targeted. This is fine and can help if you are in macro photography.
11th HDMI cable. The Canon D500 has an HDMI output type C in the body that allows you to directly view pictures and video on an HDTV. A minor criticism is that the Type C HDMI cable is not included in the package. You need to purchase separately. It would have been good to be included as a cable is not expensive.
Conclusion. The Canon D500 is a ‘light at the end, even if the construction is still solid. For the price of the camera, is in difficulties around digital SLR, which offers all the capabilities and the growth of the range Canon D500. The camera is intuitive enough for new photography to gather and learn with ease, but configurable enough for amateurs. If the video is not for you, then pick up the Canon xsi. There is very little has D500 (other than ISO 3200 and a sharp screen) not xsi. Furthermore, with the release of D500 you can probably pick a used xsi for a good price on eBay. My wife gave birth recently, and I am not looking for endless registration (which has never seen) the video of our son, but I want several minutes of clips of him as he grows with the passing years. I have always been more inclined to photography, so this gives me a camera very versatile digital SLR that I need with the wonderful ability to record HD video I want.
