Canon EOS 7D Review

Canon has just announced the Canon EOS 7D, seeking to redefine the category of mid-range SLR. My first thought after hearing that a camera frame was raised,” Is it the brother of the younger brother of the 50D and 5D Mark II? “. It is no good, but it is definitely something that belongs to the final lineup and a camera that can change 5D shooters without “down performance”.

So what’s special about this Canon 7D? Why are grouped with the single digit, high-end cameras, instead of common, such as the 50D?

Crops vs. Speed vs. Quality

The 7D really fills a gap in high-end alignment that existed before its introduction. For the flagship cameras from Canon have offered the choice between clipping factor and speed since 2002. La linea ? full frame 1Ds, ma spara “solo” 4 fotogrammi al secondo. 1D line has a 1.28x crop factor, but it shoots a huge 10 frames per second. This is good for sports photographers in two ways:

First, the crop factor gives the photographer “extra zoom great for sports, which is usually a bit ‘far from the action. If you are using a telephoto lens of 300 mm, 1.28x essentially means you are using a 300? 1.28 = 384 mm lens. Secondly, the sports photography is to capture the amount and selection of the best images and more frames per second help on this.

In high school when he played in the tennis team is always an interesting experience local newspaper photographer and was photographed with us, as if you were using a machine gun instead of a camera. The action in sport is unpredictable, so a greater number of frames per second makes it more likely to end up with a good shot.

In terms of resolution, the 7D has 18 megapixels, the 5D Mark II at least 21.1, but a step forward compared to the 50D from 15.1. The low-megapixel full frame 5D is the expected (1D 10.1 vs 1Ds 21.1), and make the transfer time between the camera and the memory card faster, which is another advantage for sports photogs.

Before the 7D, the class of high order for the 5D lacks the equivalent of occupied 1D – a camera of similar quality, but not full frame and offering a higher framerate. Offering the 7D, there is now a 5D for sports photographers.

Autofocus

The 7D has a huge 19-point auto focus … Nani that the 9-point AF user 5D Mark II. Again, this is an ideal sport for photographers.

My guess is that the next 50D DSLR line is still 9 points, while the next version of the 5D will be inflated.

Button RAW / JPEG toggle

An interesting feature Canon has decided to include in the 7D is the new RAW / JPEG / Hide button on the back of the camera above the LCD.

This allows you to capture the chart below as RAW + JPEG, regardless of the format currently being filmed in Say you usually shoot JPEG, but occasionally we find something that you want a version of RAW also. Instead of changing back and forth in the menu system, you can use the button again to fire selectively in two formats at any time.
Viewer

7D, the 5D Mark II also improved as a hedge of the viewfinder frame. Has a coverage of 100%, the same as the 1D and 1Ds Mark II, lines and more than 98% offered by 5DMk2. In comparison, the 50D line has only about 95% coverage. This really means that the camera photographs 5% more than what you see through the viewfinder.

With the 7D, which is seen through the viewfinder is what you get in the picture.

Transmitter

The 7D also contains a built in transmitter Speedlite in its built-in pop-up flash. This lets you control outside the Speedlite camera without having to buy an independent radio station that could cost several hundred dollars.

Price

5D Mark II when it was published, the estimated selling price was set at $ 2699. The 7D will be released at a much lower price (expected for a crop sensor, right?), From $ 1699, placing in the range of photographers 50D series.

Additional

Another thing that separates the line of 7D and 50D makes it similar to the 5D is the ability to record HD video. The HD video is becoming more new digital SLR. Perhaps it will become a minor role before the end of time …

Many other features of the 7D is the same or similar to the 50D and 5D Mark II. You can see a simple table comparing the alignment of all Canon digital SLR on Wikipedia.

Conclusion

I believe that the announcement 7D is certainly interesting news, it gives users Line 50D a bit ‘easier to jump, and the users of the current 5D line can change something if you prefer something like sports photography, but not to lower the quality .

I think the 7D is something that could be easily provided by a study of the lineup of Canon and clusters.
